A travers cette sculpture, Zadkine nous donne à voir un autre aspect de son travail. Il transgresse la géométrisation des formes pour introduire des volumes en rond de bosse qui viennent donner beaucoup de douceur à l’ensemble. Si la ligne marque certains contours, tels ceux du visage, Zadkine insiste ici sur les volumes du drapé, très accentués, qui viennent apporter de la rondeur. C’est la lumière qui va renforcer cet effet de plein et de vide et donner toute la puissance à la sculpture. Zadkine a choisi une patine brune magnifiquement exécutée par le fondeur Alexis Rudier avec des nuances de vert antique contribuant également à renforcer le jeu des volumes et le dynamisme de ce bronze.
In this sculpture, Zadkine shows us another aspect of his work. He transgressed the geometrisation of forms to introduce volumes in the shape of a round hump, adding a great deal of softness to the whole. While the line marks certain contours, such as those of the face, here Zadkine insists on the volumes of the drapery, which are very accentuated, adding roundness. It is the light that reinforces this effect of fullness and emptiness and gives the sculpture all its power. Zadkine chose a brown patina, magnificently executed by the foundryman Alexis Rudier, with shades of antique green that also help to reinforce the play of volumes and the dynamism of this bronze.
